Structure
The National Pain Summit has a steering committee comprising GPs and other primary care providers, pain and other medical specialists and representatives of the consumer group, Chronic Pain Australia. The facilitator is Dr Norman Swan.
Representatives of the Arthritis Foundation, Cancer Australia, Cancer Voices and the Consumer Health Forum are also providing advice.
Three working groups were formed following initial meetings of the Steering Committee to address key elements of the strategy.
Information is being exchanged with a committee of the AMA in the US which is planning a Pain Summit for later this year. Information of pain management service delivery models has also been obtained from Canada, the UK and elsewhere overseas.
